The Juliette & Chocolat Brownies

“A brownie should be simple: a lot of very good chocolate, a fudgy heart, and nothing to hide.” says Juliette Brun, the founder of Juliette & Chocolat.

Meet the brownies our guests cross town (and the internet) for: melt-in-your mouth squares of fudgy chocolatey goodness! Handcrafted in small batches in our Montréal Atelier, each fudgy square is dense, rich, and loaded with very good Belgian chocolate, but also gluten-free!

At Juliette & Chocolat, the brownie isn’t just a chocolate square: with 20 years of experience and over 5 million sold, it’s our obsession. Juliette Brun tells the story of her brownies: “We started with the triple dark chocolate brownie, which is a brownie I made at home, for family and friends. It got such rave reviews that I started making it for Juliette & Chocolat and selling it in my restaurants. That’s how the Intense Brownie came to be, and after that we just kept coming up with new and different brownies.”

Our guests cross town for our brownies, but they’ve been known to even cross borders:

Here’s what makes our brownies so good:

Premium ingredients for a true chocolate taste
We use a lot, A LOT, of fine Belgian chocolate with a high cocoa percentage for a deep, lingering flavor. We use as much as 25 tons of chocolate per year just for our brownies!

Controlled technique:

There’s more to making a brownie than just mixing ingredients. For one, brownies should not be overmixed (that incorporates air in the preparation and makes them less fudgy). The butter we use has less humidity content than regular butter so we can cook the brownies for less time, again so our brownies stay soft and fudgy in the center with a thin, shiny crust on top—the signature of perfectly controlled baking.

Each batch is prepared in our Atelier, in small batches, to ensure freshness and quality. Juliette says: “To make our brownies, we looked at equipping our Atelier with machines to automate the creation process, but despite all our tests we couldn’t replicate the taste of the original recipe. Somehow, using machines and moving to large batches always changed the end result. So we stuck with our original hand-crafted process.”

Are Juliette & Chocolat brownies gluten-free?
Yes—our brownies are gluten-free. Please note they may have come into contact with gluten, but they are made without gluten.

What chocolate do you use?
We use fine Belgian couverture chocolate we import from Belgium, for an intense chocolate taste and a smooth, fudgy mouth-feel. Semi-sweet 55% cocoa dark chocolate, 33% milk chocolate, white chocolate, and even extra bitter 70% cocoa extra dark chocolate, depending on the brownie.

All our brownies are available in our stores across Montreal, and a few flavors are available in select partner stores across Canada.

How fresh are the brownies I will receive?

Juliette says it herself: “We make brownies every day in our Atelier – we sell so much we have to!” So there you have it! Our brownies - your brownies - are VERY fresh!

Do you ship safely?

Yes, our brownies are carefully packaged and travel very well, and we work with several shipping companies used in dealing with food items. Some of our brownie creations do not travel, and for those you’ll have to visit our stores, but the brownies we sell online travel in perfect condition.

How long do your brownies keep?

Our brownies keep for up to five days at room temperature, or 3-3 weeks in the fridge.

How are the brownies best enjoyed?
We recommend warming your brownies 15–20 seconds in the microwave (or 3–4 minutes in the oven at 350°F). They will be extra fudgy and melt-in-your-mouth.
