HOT CHOCOLATE – the classic, the best!

Is there anything more comforting than a rich, velvety hot chocolate on a cold day? It’s an indulgent rendezvous that takes you back to childhood. For this recipe, you can use milk or water. With water, it’s for purists—you taste all the depth of the chocolate. With milk, the drink is softer and silkier. Go with whatever you’re in the mood for!

Use dark couverture chocolate with 50% cocoa or more. And if you’re feeling lazy (we are all allowed to sometimes!), use our Drinking chocolate mix!

This drinking chocolate keeps 3 to 4 days in the fridge.

INGREDIENTS

  • 500 ml (2 cups) milk or water
  • 30 g (¼ cup) cocoa
  • 160 g (1 cup) very good semisweet chocolate, 55% or 65% cocoa, chopped
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Marshmallows (optional)

  1. In a small saucepan, bring the milk (or water) to a simmer.
  2. Add the cocoa, whisk, and bring back to a boil.
  3. Lower the heat and add the chocolate. Stir until melted, then let simmer over low heat for a few minutes, whisking to make it foamy.
  4. Serve immediately. Garnish with whipped cream and/or marshmallows, if desired.
